The CHAP Undergraduate Summer Fellowship Program is designed to provide promising undergraduate students with a summer training opportunity in child health assessment. This opportunity will prepare them for careers focused on preventing childhood obesity in the Pacific region. Criteria for CHAP are listed below.


Criteria for successful application to the CHAP Undergraduate Summer Fellowship Program include:

  • Undergraduate student at one of the following institutions:
  1. Chaminade University
  2. Northern Marianas College
  3. University of Guam
  4. University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa
  • Must be a US Citizen or US National.
  • Candidates should provide evidence that they have the academic background (cannot be on academic probation, passed English and Math introductory classes) to be successful in the CHAP Undergraduate Summer Fellowship Program.
  • Candidates should provide evidence that they have the motivation to be successful in online learning and to conduct an independent field experience.
  • Candidates should provide evidence of interest in learning child health assessment techniques related to anthropometry and/or diet.
  • Candidates should provide evidence of their commitment to reside and work in one of these US Affiliated Pacific Islands (Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, Guam, or Hawai‘i).

Preference will be to admit students who are from the jurisdiction of one of the institutions involved in the CHAP Undergraduate Summer Fellowship Program; however, students who come from a jurisdiction of one of the other collaborating institutions and intend to stay in their home jurisdiction over the summer are also appropriate candidates for this program.

The CHAP Undergraduate Summer Fellowship Application Materials Checklist:

  1. CHAP Undergraduate Summer Fellowship Application (Includes Personal Statements)
  2. Current Resume
  3. Current Academic Transcript (unofficial is acceptable)
  4. Two Letters of Recommendation (submit here)

Applicants will be ranked by: 1) Interest in child health assessment methods related to anthropometry and/or diet, 2) Potential to conduct a field experience related to child health assessment, 3) Motivation and 4) Commitment to the region.


CHAP Undergraduate Summer Fellowship Program Application Timeline:

February 15: Application Closing Date

Mid-February to Mid-March: Application Review and Selection Period

Mid-March: Applicants Notified Regarding Applications

March 31: Fellows Confirmed
