CHL Researcher and Former CHL Trainee Receives NIH R01

  • CHLN

Congratulations to Dr. Monica Esquivel, CHL researcher and former CHL trainee, on receiving her first NIH R01 grant!

Monica and her colleagues at the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa were recently awarded $2.8 million to launch a new program supporting Hawaiʻi residents living with high blood pressure. Through this initiative, participants who struggle to afford healthy groceries will receive a $100 monthly voucher to purchase fresh, nutritious produce.

This innovative approach aims to improve health outcomes by addressing barriers to healthy eating, while also supporting local agriculture and food access.
