
CHL trainee, Christina Young, was recently awarded the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) Doctoral Scholarship for the 2025–2026 academic year. This highly competitive award recognizes Registered Dietitians pursuing doctoral studies. One of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics Foundation scholarships, this award highlights the generosity of supporters committed to advancing the profession of nutrition and dietetics. She was also awarded one of five CDR Emerging Researcher Grants, which provides additional funding for her doctoral research, “Hānai Waiū O Nā Kānaka ʻŌiwi (Breastfeeding of Native Hawaiians),” which explores important cultural and health dimensions of Native Hawaiian communities (see LinkedIn Announcement).
In addition, Christina was honored with the Hawai‘i Pacific Foundation Doctoral Research Award, a highly competitive award funded by the Hawai‘i Pacific Foundation and administered by the East-West Center. This award will directly support her dissertation research. The award provides resources to cover research-related costs over a six-month period and also offers the opportunity to join the East-West Center’s residential community. Christina will be encouraged to share her findings with both the Center and the broader community, contributing to meaningful dialogue and impact.
Together, these awards reflect Christina’s academic excellence, professional dedication, and promise as a leader in the field, while also highlighting the significance of her research and the confidence placed in her potential to advance knowledge and practice in nutrition and dietetics.
