Dr. Rachel Novotny

CHL Center Food Systems Project Director

My name is Dr. Rachel Novotny and I am trained in maternal-child health, global nutrition, epidemiology, anthropology, and environmental biology. I have published more than 155 scientific papers related to maternal, infant, and child nutrition and health in remote regions of the world, and among culturally diverse populations. I am the Principal Investigator of the Children’s Healthy Living Program for Remote Underserved Minority Populations of the Pacific Center of Excellence or CHL Center and the CHL Food System grants. CHL developed a regional community-randomized multi-level intervention trial, training, and an outreach program throughout the US Affiliated Pacific region including the Marshall Islands, Palau, Federated States of Micronesia, and United States that decreased the prevalence of young child overweight and obesity. I also am the co-Director of the Children’s Healthy Living Dietetics Scholarship Program. I enjoy spending time outdoors- running, paddle boarding, and hiking in particular. I live in Kailua on the island of Oahu and am married with two children.
